Instant Milk Peda
This is a quick fix recipe for peda which needs just three basic ingredients. For the last two weeks I and our family had been going through a tough period since we received the news of my aunt who works in the medical field tested positive for Covid, the pandemic which has gripped the world. It was for the first time that I personally saw the difficulties affected individuals and their families had to go through because of this nasty virus. She started feeling better recently and today she got discharged from the hospital. It was absolutely a sigh of relief to all of us in the family. For me, happiness is best expressed by cooking some sweet dish. I always make peda using ricotta cheese and I've posted the recipe for the same in this blog years ago. You can find it here - Ricotta Cheese Peda
But as of now, I wanted to make something in a jiffy yet it should be apt to celebrate the happiness. So I tried this recipe using milk powder. This peda was dished out in just a matter of half an hour and tasted good. So let's jump to the recipe!
Ingredients:
- Milk powder - 1 cup
- Milk - 1/4 cup
- Sugar - 3 Tbsp (+ 1 Tbsp, if you like it sweeter)
- Salt - a pinch
- Ghee - 1 tsp
- Almond, sliced - to garnish
- Grind the sugar to a fine powder and keep aside.
- Boil the milk, rest it for 5 minutes and while it is still warm mix it along with the milk powder.
- Whisk it to a smooth consistency so that there are no lumps.
- Transfer this mixture to a pan with half teaspoon of the ghee on a medium flame.
- Keep stirring on a medium low flame until it starts leaving the sides of the pan. It will take around 8-10 minutes.
- Add the powdered sugar at this stage.
- Mix it well and stir it until the mixture forms a dough like consistency. It will take just 3-4 minutes.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased plate (you may use the reserved ghee to smear the plate).
- Divide it into eight medium sized balls, press it gently to shape like a peda and garnish it with sliced almonds.
Notes:
I skipped adding cardamom powder, it tasted good though. Please feel free to add it for extra flavor.
Make sure the milk and milk powder mixture is free of lumps before putting on the stove top.
This recipe yields 8 medium sized pedas. Feel free to double the measurements of ingredients mentioned, to get more pedas.
