Guacamole (Mexican dip)

Avocado which is also known as alligator pear(in India, it is known by the name butter fruit) is considered as one of the healthiest food because it contain all the essential nutrients required in a daily diet. It is also rich in fibre, protein and phytochemicals which help protect against various disease and illness. Avocado is also a high calorie fruit because of its high content of fat. But the fat contained is monounsaturated which is not harmful to health.
Guacamole which is a Mexican dip has avocado as its main base. I had guacamole for the first time from a restaurant here, Chipotle. I developed an instant liking for the taste (and the name) and have tried making it at home after going through various recipes seen in the net. It is a yummy creamy dip, you will love it, so will your heart!

Ingredients:
  • Avocado(ripe)......................... 2
  • Red onion................................1(finely chopped)
  • Garlic pod................................1 minced
  • Tomato.....................................1(chopped)
  • Lemon juice..............................2 tsp
  • Sour cream................................2 tsp(optional)
  • Pickled jalapeno slices..............1-2, chopped (optional)
  • Cilantro......................................1 tsp(finely chopped)
  • Salt.............................................1/4 tsp/ as per taste
Method:
  • Cut the avocado into half. Remove the pit and scoop the flesh into a bowl and mash it well with a spoon.
  • To it, add the rest of the ingredients except tomato. Incorporate all the ingredients well.
  • When ready to be served, add the chopped tomato and mix well.
  • Enjoy with tortilla/ potato chips.

Notes:
  • As it get easily oxidised soon, prepare this dip just a few minutes before serving.
  • If you add a little bit of brine from the picked jalapenos to the mix, it will add to the taste.
